Product information

Custom-crafted and Gold Foil-equipped, this Saul Koll build is a masterclass in tone, playability, and style.

This 2008 Saul Koll build is something special, and not just for its tone and feel, but for the custom touches Saul himself added in 2015, giving the guitar a fresh voice and striking visual identity.

At the center of the update are a pair of Lollar Gold Foil pickups, housed in sleek Corian surrounds and set beneath a custom-fabricated pickguard with chrome “speed stripes.” Topped off with new teacup-style Volume & Tone knobs, this is a uniquely refined take on Koll’s forward-leaning design aesthetic.

Tonewoods include a Big Leaf Maple top, Korina back and neck, and a gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard with custom inlays. The Gibson-scale neck features a carve reminiscent of a late-'50s Les Paul - substantial, round, and really comfortable (.89"-1.0" @ the 1st and 12th frets).

Hardware includes Kluson tuners, a TonePros wraparound bridge, and Saul’s signature build quality - lightweight (just 6lbs 4oz!), responsive, and super resonant. A rear tummy contour hugs the player in all the right ways, and the low action and excellent setup make for a playing experience that’s nothing short of inspiring.

Tonally? This is one of the best Gold Foil implementations we’ve encountered. Chimey, harmonically rich, low-noise, and beautifully responsive to both touch and effects. There’s a soft sag to the attack - think PAF - paired with a chimey high end that stays musical, never harsh. It’s a knockout for R&B, folk rock, ambient textures, and even a bit of surprise Tele jangle.

Condition is excellent for a near 20-year-old guitar. Very minor signs of wear include a touch of fret wear, a tiny finish blemish on the top (~1mm), slight plastic aging, and some light worming on the back (visible only in the right light). It presents beautifully overall, with original TKL case included.
